An orderly shutdown of Loud ML ensures that Loud ML has a chance to cleanup and close outstanding resources. For example, a process that is shutdown in an orderly fashion will sync data to disk, and perform other related cleanup activities. You can help ensure an orderly shutdown by properly stopping Loud ML.
If you’re running Loud ML as a service, you can stop Loud ML via the service management functionality provided by your installation.
If you’re running Loud ML directly, you can stop Loud ML by sending control-C if you’re
running Loud ML in the console, or by sending
SIGTERM to the loudmld process on a
POSIX system. You can obtain the PID to send the signal to via various tools (e.g.,
$ ps | grep loudmld 14542 loudmld
From the Loud ML startup logs:

Stopping on Fatal Errorsedit
During the life of the loudmld process, certain fatal errors could arise that put the application in a questionable state. Such fatal errors include out of memory errors, internal errors, and serious I/O errors.
When Loud ML has encountered such a fatal error Loud ML will attempt to log the error and then will exit. When Loud ML initiates such a shutdown, it does not go through an orderly shutdown as described above.
